Three Great Tips to Help Get You Into A Positive Frame of Mind Before Your Game of Golf

By: Gail Smirthwaite

Tip 1:
Leave yourself plenty of time for breakfast, take a steady drive to the game and play a really up-lifting CD on the way. Make-up a compilation of any music that really makes you feel on top of the world. Give yourself time to warm up and hit a few balls but do not try and prove to yourself that you are playing well in case you hit a few practice swings that you are not happy with - you do not want to take this to the golf course with you. Believe in yourself and you will play better golf - guaranteed!

Tip 2:

Once you get to the course ignore any negativity from fellow players. You can CHOOSE not to talk about anything that could affect your game; the bad weather, certain difficult holes renowned on the course and hazards. Many golfers turn up with a negative attitude and a whole catalogue of excuses as to why they are not going to play well before they have hit their first ball. They will carry this mind set onto the golf course with them. It is up to you to not get drawn into this type of conversation as it will only serve to create a negative state of mind in you too; before you even step on the first tee.

Tip 3:

First Tee Nerves? Check what your self-talk is telling you? If it is negative tell it to STOP! Then replace it with a positive thought. Get a positive statement ready so that you can repeat it and make sure that you use it as soon as any negative thoughts appear. The idea is to get yourself into a frame of mind where you look forward to standing on that first tee. The excitement you feel should create a positive feeling and remember that you are playing golf because YOU WANT TO it is your hobby and it is supposed to be FUN!
